Lushnja is often remembered for the Congress of Lushnja in 1920, which resulted in the declaration of Tirana as the capital of Albania. For younger generations, Lushnja is known as the birthplace of notable figures such as the singer Vaçe Zela, actress Margarita Xhepa, and writer Vath Korreshi.
“EU for Municipalities” considers Lushnja as the city of youth, representing the beautiful generation with a strong will and desire for self-improvement and innovation. The young people of Lushnja are eager to develop their talents and actively participate in community initiatives.
The Multifunctional Youth Center, funded by the European Union, has been a much-awaited facility for youngsters in Lushnja. Through the “EU for Municipalities” initiative, they now have access to a conducive space where they can exchange innovative ideas, engage in community projects, and take advantage of various courses and services to nurture their skills.
“The Lushnja Multifunctional Youth Center has been a much-awaited facility for the young people of Lushnja. With the support of the “EU for Municipalities” project, they now have access to an ideal space where they can exchange innovative ideas and work on projects that benefit the community.
Additionally, they can take advantage of the various courses and free services offered at the center to nurture their talents,” says Mayor Eriselda Sefa. She and her team have been intricately involved in supervising the progress of the project “Empowering the Youth of Lushnja” at every stage, with the primary objective of enhancing municipal services to empower the youth in the municipality.
The European Union provided 45.380.00 euros through the “EU for Municipalities” program, out of the total budget of 50.423.00 euros. This funding was used by the municipality to support activities for youth, rehabilitation works, and the purchase of furnishings and equipment such as computers, musical instruments, and sports games.
“With the guidance of the “EU for Municipalities” team at every step of our project’s progress, we successfully nurtured the ambitions and talents of the young individuals in our city and all administrative units in Lushnja Municipality. Additionally, we have strengthened our expertise in project management and execution,” shared Belisa Haxhiu, Councilor for Economic Development Policies in the Municipality, who is also in charge of the project.
Today, the Multifunctional Youth Center has established four youth clubs, providing six new public services to 230 pupils and students. Uarda Vodo, a regular visitor to the center, expressed her belief in the potential of her peers and the positive impact of the center on the youth. The municipality hopes that the center will nurture talents that will contribute to the cultural legacy of the province of Myzeqe.
