The system of solar panels installed on the terrace of “Charles Telford Erickson” high school was inaugurated in Golem, part of the Municipality of Kavaja. This project, funded by the European Union under the EU4Municipalities grant scheme, is set to supply the entire energy needs of the school, according to Mayor Fisnik Qosja.
Hubert Perr, the Head of Cooperation at the EU Delegation in Albania, addressed the students on the significance of energy efficiency. He emphasized the global importance of climate change and the impact of efficiently utilizing energy resources on our lives. Mr Perr emphasized the project as a positive step towards environmental preservation by promoting responsible energy consumption.
The project by the Municipality of Kavaja for energy efficiency has directly benefited 170 students and teachers from “Charles Telford Erickson”. With the support of environmental partner organization ETMI, the project included local activities to improve capacities for renewable energy. The focus was on 10 local tourist businesses, 10 local farmers, 23 school students, and 5 employees of the Municipality of Kavaja.
EU4Municipalities is a project funded by the European Union. It is implemented by a consortium led by NALAS, the Network of Associations of Local Governments of South-East Europe, (institutionally supported by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation), in partnership with the Association of Local Autonomy of Albania, EcoPartners for Sustainable Development, and Co-PLAN, Institute for Habitat Development.
